Calday Grange RAF section provides the perfect learning environment for cadets to have fun whilst developing the skills they need to succeed in life. We focus on reinforcing their confidence, teamwork skills and leadership qualities.
Parading weekly at Calday, the RAF cadets are empowered to pursue excellence through a dynamic training syllabus ranging from principles of flight to operating in the field. Weekend training events run throughout the year to provide more exciting opportunities and chances to meet new people. These cover wide topics such as first aid and skill at arms. These serve as a firm foundation for future opportunities that are available in the air cadets and allow participation in national level events.
The section has a passionate and experienced cadet NCO team ranging from Y10 to Y13 focused on finding the leadership potential in all our cadets. With the help of our cadet force adult volunteers these skills are continuously refined providing them with scope to take on more responsibilities.
Opportunities in RAFAC include flying, gliding, sport, space and cyber. Every cadet is given the opportunity to go flying at RAF Woodvale in the RAF’s Grob Tutor aircraft for an air experience flight and the Grob Viking glider aircraft. Cadets have the opportunity to be awarded gliding and flying scholarships. Training opportunities range from section level, to contingent level (with the army and navy sections), all the way up to national level camps and courses with cadets from around the British Isles. We also get regular opportunities to visit active RAF stations to explore this way of life and hear their story.
Every year the section is invited to an annual camp, which can include flying squadron visits and occasionally a flight in frontline RAF aircraft. In 2024, 14 cadets from the RAF section travelled to RAF Valley for our annual camp, which included fire service visits, flying squadron visits, Hawk T1 flying simulators and adventurous training.
Current Calday cadet, Flight Sergeant Eyers says “it’s the best thing I’ve ever been part of. I’ve met new people my age from all around the country and made lasting friendships. I highly recommend coming down and taking part – even if it is only for Thursday evenings”.
Every September, the CCF welcomes the newest recruits to each section.
