The RAF section has returned from an unforgettable summer camp at RAF Spadeadam — and what a thrilling, rewarding experience it’s been for everyone involved!
From the very beginning, cadets were immersed in exciting and challenging activities, building not only their skills but also strong friendships — especially with cadets from the Sandbach RAF section.
The camp kicked off with a full day of:
- Uniform Inspection
- Drill Practice
- Drill Competition
This was followed by a series of Round-Robin activities led by the Fire Section:
- Blind Exercise – a test of teamwork and communication.
- Hose Reel Race – all about speed and coordination.
- Map Drawing – developing navigation and situational awareness.
Cadets also had the opportunity to:
- Visit the station armoury, where they viewed a range of weapons including the M1 Garand, M2 Thompson, M3 Grease Gun, AK47, BREN, and SLR.
- Strip and cock the L85A2 rifle — a real highlight for many.
The evenings were packed with fun and variety:
- A sports evening brought out the competitive spirit.
- A memorable trip to Hadrian’s Wall, including Walltown Crags near the Roman Army Museum — a breathtaking and historic stretch featured in the museum’s award-winning film.
- A visit to the Solway Aviation Museum, home to over 20 aircraft. A big highlight was sitting inside the legendary Avro Vulcan bomber!
- Hollywood Bowling Night, full of laughs and friendly competition.
The final night of camp was a proper celebration:
🎉 Pizza and karaoke party
🎂 A birthday celebration with Colin the Caterpillar cake
🎖️ Badges awarded for achievements throughout the week
📈 Well-deserved promotions recognising cadets’ hard work and leadership
The camp has not only built memories that will last a lifetime, but also strengthened skills, discipline, and friendships. A huge well done to all cadets for their participation, effort, and enthusiasm throughout the week!
