On 16th August, a group of our Royal Navy cadets attended Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC), Dartmouth, to take part in a prestigious week-long Cadet Camp. These military-sponsored camps provide cadets with the opportunity to experience life within a naval establishment, whilst developing their leadership, teamwork, and practical skills.
What is a BRNC Cadet Camp?
BRNC Cadet Camps are organised for members of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and are designed to mirror many aspects of Royal Navy training. Living and training at the College, cadets gain a real insight into the standards of discipline, responsibility, and commitment expected of Royal Navy personnel.
Programme of Activities
Throughout the week, cadets participated in a challenging and varied programme, including:
- Leadership and Discipline – Drill, low ropes courses, and structured leadership tasks encouraged cadets to demonstrate initiative, communication, and teamwork.
- Adventurous Training – Sailing, archery, and water-based activities developed resilience and confidence in new environments.
- Skill Development – Cadets had the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications, such as the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), and many continued their progress towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
- Naval Experience – Immersion in the daily routines and traditions of Britannia Royal Naval College provided cadets with a genuine appreciation of life within the Royal Navy.
Alongside the main camp, a Royal Navy Band Camp was also held. Cadets attending this programme enhanced their musical skills, refined their performance ability, and represented the cadet force with pride.
Conduct and Achievement
Our cadets approached the week with exemplary behaviour, maturity, and enthusiasm. They demonstrated confidence, strong leadership qualities, and a readiness to embrace every challenge presented to them. Their conduct throughout reflected great credit on themselves and on the College, and we are delighted with all they achieved.
This experience highlights the dedication and high standards of our CCF contingent, and we are immensely proud of the way our cadets represented both the school and the Royal Navy Cadets.
