A few words from Rosabella G,
🎖️ My Journey to Master Cadet: The Peak of Cadet Training
Becoming a Master Cadet in the Army Cadet Force (CCF) isn’t just a milestone – it’s the culmination of years of commitment, growth, and leadership. For me, it marked the point where all the skills I had developed over my cadet journey came together.
Why I Set My Sights on Master Cadet
When I first joined the CCF Army, I had no idea where the path would take me. Like many cadets, I started by learning basic skills: drill, fieldcraft, and navigation. But it wasn’t long before I found myself inspired by the senior cadets who led with confidence and pride – and I knew I wanted to be one of them.
The Master Cadet Course is the highest level a cadet can achieve. It’s not just a badge; it’s a symbol of trust, experience, and the ability to lead others.
Preparing for the Course
Before even being eligible, I had to:
- Complete my 4-Star Training
- Hold the rank of Cadet Sergeant
- Be nominated by my County Commandant
It meant long hours on the parade square, many weekends on exercises, and taking every opportunity to step up as a leader. I studied hard, improved my instructional skills, and made sure I was ready – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
At Frimley Park – Where Leaders Are Made
The course was held at CTC Frimley Park, the home of cadet leadership training. The environment was both demanding and inspiring. We weren’t just taught – we were challenged.
Over the course of a week, I covered:
- Advanced fieldcraft and navigation
- Leadership under pressure
- Planning and delivering training sessions
- Team-building in complex scenarios
We were expected to take initiative, adapt quickly, and support one another. It wasn’t easy – but that’s what made it worthwhile.
What I Took Away
Completing the Master Cadet Course didn’t just earn me a certificate – it reshaped how I see myself and others. I gained:
- Greater confidence in leading peers
- Real-world skills in communication and instruction
- Friendships with cadets from across the UK
- A deep appreciation for what it means to serve
Final Thoughts
If you’re a senior cadet considering the Master Cadet Course, I have one piece of advice: go for it. Push your limits. Represent your county with pride. The reward is more than a badge – it’s becoming the cadet others will one day look up to.
