This week marked the first night back for our Combined Cadet Force, and what a return it was! With just shy of 200 cadets on parade across our three sections – Army, Navy, and RAF – the evening was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, leadership, and community spirit.
The parade ground was filled with energy as returning cadets reunited with old friends, while new recruits were welcomed into the CCF family. For many, it was their very first step into the world of cadets, and it was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and eagerness to get started.
This year also sees the introduction of our new cadet leadership teams. Having worked hard to earn their positions, these senior cadets have now stepped into their roles and are ready to guide, mentor, and set the example for their peers. Their first evening in post was a chance to show their commitment and begin leading training activities across the sections.
The evening also provided an opportunity to celebrate key achievements across the contingent. In front of all three sections, Colour Sergeant McGinn was promoted to Company Sergeant Major (CSM) McGinn, a recognition of his dedication, leadership, and ongoing support to the Army Section and wider CCF. His new role will see him continue to mentor cadets, support training, and help shape the future of the contingent.
Alongside this, several cadets were awarded their Master Cadet awards – the highest level of training achievement within the cadet syllabus. To earn this award, cadets must demonstrate advanced knowledge, commitment, and leadership skills, and it was a proud moment for them to be recognised in front of the entire contingent.
Across all three services, cadets also began their first sessions of the term. From drill and basic skills to planning for upcoming training exercises and camps, the year ahead promises to be full of opportunities for growth. Our cadets will take part in a wide range of activities designed to challenge them, build their resilience, and strengthen their teamwork — whether on the parade square, in the classroom, out on exercise, or on the water.
What makes the CCF truly special is the community it creates. The friendships formed and the memories made often last a lifetime, and it was clear on the first night back that both old and new cadets are ready to embrace everything the year has to offer.
Contingent Commander Wing Commander Bosworth said:
“It was fantastic to see so many cadets on parade to start the new term. The energy, enthusiasm, and commitment they showed is a real credit to themselves and to the school. I was especially proud to see cadets receive their Master Cadet awards and to witness the promotion of CSM McGinn – both of which highlight the strength of leadership within our contingent. These moments set a very positive tone for the year ahead, and I look forward to seeing our cadets continue to grow, learn, and succeed together.”
