The RAF Section has recently welcomed two new recruits who have very quickly captured the attention — and affection — of cadets across the section. While they may not be wearing uniform just yet, their arrival has certainly boosted morale and brought plenty of smiles.

To mark the occasion, cadets were invited to take part in a fun and creative competition to name our new teddy bears. The challenge proved extremely popular, with cadets putting forward a wide range of imaginative and thoughtful suggestions. The enthusiasm shown reflected the strong sense of teamwork and community within the RAF Section, as cadets eagerly discussed ideas and campaigned for their favourite names.

After much deliberation, two names stood out as clear winners, and we are delighted to officially welcome Sgt Stuffy and Cdt Ranger.

Sgt Stuffy, the larger of the two teddies, has naturally assumed the senior role. With his impressive size and commanding presence, he has already been promoted to Sergeant and is widely regarded as being in charge of morale, motivation, and keeping spirits high. Alongside him is Cdt Ranger — smaller in stature but big on enthusiasm, curiosity, and readiness for adventure. Together, they make the perfect team.

OC RAF Section, Pilot Officer Knox, said:
“It’s wonderful to see cadets engaging so enthusiastically in a fun activity like this. Sgt Stuffy and Cdt Ranger are already boosting squadron morale, and it’s clear that our cadets have a real sense of pride and ownership in their section.”

Contingent Commander, Wing Commander Bosworth, added:
“This is a perfect example of how even small, light-hearted activities can strengthen teamwork, camaraderie, and the spirit of the contingent. I’m delighted to welcome our newest ‘recruits’ — long may they bring smiles to everyone in the RAF Section!”

The naming competition provided a light-hearted but meaningful opportunity for cadets to get involved, encouraging creativity, participation, and a shared sense of ownership within the section. Sgt Stuffy and Cdt Ranger have already become firm favourites and will no doubt be making appearances at future activities, events, and perhaps even inspections.

A big well done to all cadets who took part in the competition, and a very warm welcome to our newest RAF Section recruits.
