We are delighted to announce that Sergeant Major Owen has achieved an exceptional milestone in his cadet career, having successfully passed the Army Officer Selection Board (AOSB). Following this remarkable success, Owen has been awarded Army university sponsorship, securing his pathway to both higher education and a future commission as an officer in the British Army.

The Army Officer Selection Board is one of the most demanding and competitive processes faced by aspiring Army officers. Over several days at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, candidates are assessed through a series of rigorous tasks, including:

  • Leadership and Command Exercises – leading teams through complex challenges under time pressure.
  • Planning and Problem-Solving Tests – demonstrating initiative, critical thinking, and clear communication.
  • Physical Assessments – ensuring candidates possess the fitness and resilience required of an Army officer.
  • Interviews and Discussion Groups – testing knowledge of current affairs, motivation, and officer potential.

Passing AOSB is an achievement in itself, but gaining Army university sponsorship makes this accomplishment even more prestigious. This highly sought-after scheme provides financial support for university study while also guaranteeing a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after graduation. It recognises candidates with exceptional leadership qualities and the potential to take on the responsibilities of commissioned service.

As a Sergeant Major, Alex has already shown himself to be a natural leader within the cadet force, setting the highest standards of discipline, teamwork, and commitment. His success at AOSB not only reflects his own determination and hard work but also demonstrates the outstanding opportunities available through the cadet programme.

We are incredibly proud of Alex’s achievements and look forward to following his journey through university, officer training, and into his career as a future leader in the British Army. His success serves as an inspiration to all our cadets, showing how dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to service can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.
