ear 9 Cadets Attend First Training Weekend

This weekend, our Year 9 cadets took part in their first training weekend at Fox Barracks, marking an important milestone in their cadet journey.

The focus of the weekend was Skill at Arms training, where cadets were introduced to the principles of safe weapon handling, discipline, and responsibility. Following the successful completion of this training, cadets had the opportunity to fire the .22 rifle on the indoor range, many for the first time.

Cadets also experienced their first session on the Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT), enabling them to develop their marksmanship skills further in a safe and controlled environment.

The weekend was further enhanced with the support of a number of our senior cadets, who were in attendance to guide and mentor the Year 9s. Their encouragement and leadership played an important role in helping the newer cadets settle in, build confidence, and get the most out of the experience.

In addition to the practical training, the weekend provided valuable opportunities for team building and personal development. Cadets worked together throughout, building resilience, confidence, and forming new friendships.

All cadets demonstrated excellent attitude and commitment across the weekend and should be commended for the way they represented both the Combined Cadet Force and their school.

“I could not be more impressed with the manner in which our Year 9 cadets conducted themselves throughout their first training weekend. They demonstrated resilience, discipline, and a strong willingness to learn. Their attitude and teamwork were exemplary, and they are a credit to both the Contingent and their school.”

This was an excellent start to their cadet experience, and we look forward to seeing their continued progress in future training activities.
